Whole of Government Records Disposal Schedules

The Territory Records Office originally produced the Territory Administrative Records Disposal Schedules (TARDiS) for the disposal of records of common functions used throughout the ACT Government.

The TARDiS was linked to the Territory Version of Keyword AAA (TVKAAA). Both the TARDiS and the TVKAAA were required to be used for the description and control of all records of common functions across the government of the Australian Capital Territory.

Records of those functions considered to be core government business performed by agencies with the lead responsibility were covered by Records Disposal Schedules specific to the function and developed by the agency.

The TARDiS was eventually superseded by a whole of government approach to recordkeeping which resulted in all schedules becoming whole of government and not necessarily agency specific for core business and the TVKAAA becoming the Whole of Government Thesaurus of Recordkeeping Terms. Whole of Government Records Disposal Schedules are linked to the Whole of Government Thesaurus of Recordkeeping Terms and both are required to be used for the description and control of all records of the government of the Australian Capital Territory.

All Records Disposal Schedules are now available for use by any agency that creates records covered by the schedule. Records Disposal Schedules are considered by the Territory Records Advisory Council prior to approval by the Director of Territory Records and their implementation by agencies.

Records Disposal Schedules are found on the ACT Legislation Register.

‘Retain as Territory Archives’

ACT Government Archives are those records kept as ‘Retain as Territory Archives’ according to the authorised Records Disposal Schedules.
